Palaces & castles
Saxony is the country of palaces and castles. Above all in the man-made landscape around Schmilka you will find numerous of these former residences of the princes and kings. They invite to go on a time trip, to stroll in old walls and to listen in dreadful stories.
Attend the biggest mountain fortress of Europe, the fortress Königstein, the castle Stolpen built on basalt which was a long-standing prison of countess Cosel, the royal castle Weesenstein, the castle Hohnstein, the baroque garden Großsedlitz, the Bohemian castle in Decin with his graceful rose garden.
In the castle Zuschendorf near Pirna you will find every year tender camellia blossoms in splendid colors. In the castle of Pillnitz grow one of the four first camellias which were brought to Europe. Today she is 220 years old and is already 9 meters high. Between February and April she dresses up with astonishing 35,000 blossoms! Pillnitz has, by the way, also a splendid English garden.
